Week One Training Camp Week Report

Trainig Camp Report - Week Zero
We’re finally here! All teams will report to training camp this week! We’re marching forward into the 2026 fantasy season. Dynasty Freeks have been active all year, but this is the time when even the least involved dynasty managers tune back in to their dynasty leagues. It’s game on for everyone.
Over the next six weeks, news will break from coaches, players, and beat reporters about all of the dynasty assets on our rosters, and we’ll get a clearer picture of the roles they will play on their teams in 2026. Sadly, injuries will occur, too, making the pathway for players even clearer before the NFL season starts on Wednesday, September 9th.
Up until then, I’ll focus my articles on all the reports coming from camp and discuss the dynasty implications of each. This week’s reports were mostly pre-camp reports. Still, they give us a reason to talk about the dynasty value of players headed into training camp.
Patrick Mahomes
- Chiefs coach Andy Reid said QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) has been fully cleared to practice.
- This report follows what has been reported throughout the offseason. Mahomes is indeed planning to practice and start the season for the Chiefs. Of course, this comes as welcome news to all the offensive weapons in Kansas City. I assume with the addition of Kenneth Walker, Kansas City will become a more run-heavy team than they were over the last few seasons. Coach Reid recognized the need to change, and he will. Mahomes will also run less following his surgery, bringing his fantasy floor down compared to recent years. Still, he’s one of the best and will produce for dynasty managers no matter the changes to the offense this season. The NFL and dynasty leagues are better with him back.
Rashee Rice
- NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Chiefs coach Andy Reid said WR Rashee Rice (knee) “is doing great” and is “cleared to go.”
- It appears the NFL will not impose an additional suspension on Rice, clearing his path to productivity in Kansas City, even if his off-field actions may cause the Chiefs to let him go after this year. Rice was the fourth-highest scoring receiver in points per game after returning from suspension and before getting injured. As stated above, I do expect the Chiefs to become more run-heavy, so Rice will not get as many targets as in previous seasons, but he will still be Mahomes’ first read if Kelce is not. Rice is a tough player to roster for dynasty managers because of his off-field antics and uncertain future, but for this season he will be a top-ten to fifteen producer.
Tyreek Hill
- Tyreek Hill said he has “no power” in his left leg.
- ESPN Jeremy Fowler reports that “there isn’t much of a market” for free agent WR Tyreek Hill (knee), but NFL teams are “monitoring” his recovery.
- This is terrible, but not surprising news, for Hill’s dynasty managers who saw him fall off the proverbial cliff faster than most any receiver ever, albeit from injury instead of age alone. I’ve held Hill in the one league where he’s on my roster, but I fully expect to drop him when our roster cut date comes before the season. It’s sad to see one of the fantasy greats go out this way.
Zach Charbonnet
- Seahawks placed Zach Charbonnet (knee) on the active/PUP list.
- As everyone expected, Charbonnet will start training camp on PUP and will likely start the season on PUP, if not IR. I do not expect Charbonnet to get back on the field until at least the halfway point in the season. By that time, Jadarian Price may have stolen the position away from him unless it’s George Holani who is the big surprise. Holani has been my most added player during the offseason because the team loves and trusts him. I believe he will get the most snaps to start the season while the Seahawks allow Price to adjust to the NFL. Emanuel Wilson, I believe, will be replaced by Price, while Holani will maintain his role as their passing-downs back and could surprise this season even once Price is a more active part of the offense. Holani is the cheapest piece of this backfield and the one I want the most currently, though I am pleased to still have three shares of Charbonnet, who could steal the job back from Price if he proves ineffective in the NFL. Charbonnet has already proven that he can play.
Sam LaPorta
- ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Lions TE Sam LaPorta (herniated disc) was fully cleared for training camp.
- LaPorta is poised for a second career breakout season. After struggling with his health for two years after his breakout rookie season, I fully expect him to come back to life this season with a new offensive coordinator who made Trey McBride the best tight end in the league last year in Arizona. He’s always had the physical ability to produce among the top five tight ends in the league, and this year he will do it. I’m calling for a major bounce-back season for LaPorta.
Chris Bell
- Dolphins placed WR Chris Bell (knee) on the active/non-football injury list.
- This news was expected. Dynasty managers who drafted Bell put their bets on his winning a role with the team later in the season and becoming the Dolphins’ WR-1 next year. I’m still pleased to have him on one of my rosters and am happy to have him move to an IR spot for the start of the season. The Miami passing game will be a work in progress this season, but I am confident that Bell is the most talented receiver on their roster, even though they drafted Caleb Douglas much earlier.
Caleb Douglas
- NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe believes Dolphins WR Caleb Douglas has a chance to earn a starting role this year.
- I do not doubt that Douglas will receive a chance to become a starter this season, but I don’t believe he can do it. I am confident that Malik Washington, Devon Achane, and Greg Dulcich will dominate targets and be the only productive offensive weapons for the Dolphins, even though their quarterback, Malik Willis, will be inefficient as a passer since he’s such a playmaker as a rusher. My bets are still on Bell to develop into the team’s WR-1, even if it takes a year to do so.
Bucky Irving
- Fox 13’s Mark Skol Jr. said Bucky Irving told him he will be “good to go” for training camp.
- This is good news for Irving’s dynasty managers because he cannot fall behind in the running back competition this season in Tampa Bay. Irving has been one of the biggest fallers in my dynasty rankings over the last twelve months after his unproductive second season, and the Buccaneers’ offseason moves signing Kenneth Gainwell and re-signing Sean Tucker. This is one of the most intriguing training camp battles in training camp and preseason. I consider it one big mess and would want to get out of all my shares of Irving and Gainwell, while still holding a few lower-end shares of Tucker, one of my sleepers from years past who finally proved something last season.
Malik Nabers
- ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) is not on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp.
- Nabers has been one of the biggest concerns of the offseason, with speculation that he’s miss significant time or at least start the season on PUP. This news is music to the ears of his dynasty managers and every fantasy-relevant player on the Giants. His presence in the lineup will make the entire offense immensely more productive. Dynasty managers still want to see reports from training camp next week saying that he’s participating in team drills to get their excitement level back to where it once was. Hopefully, those reports will come next week!
Malachi Fields
- ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Giants have been “highly impressed” by WR Malachi Fields.
- All the offseason buzz has favored Fields. It started with the team’s great praise of him as a draft pick in the video they released showing how much the coaching staff targeted him, and continued with this early positive report from a reporter. The Giants have one of the weakest depth charts for a rookie to climb, and Fields could easily lock down a starting power-slot role, which would be perfect for him. He’s tied for my most drafted rookie this season, since I drafted him in three of my eight rookie drafts so far, with two rookie drafts to come. I’m confident that he will earn a growing role in the offense during his rookie season.
Jonathon Brooks
- NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reports “there will be no limitations” for Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks (knee).
- The Charlotte Observers’ Mike Kaye reports that Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks took some first-team reps at training camp on Thursday.
- Brooks has been one of the biggest risers in dynasty rankings this offseason as the reports on his full recovery have been consistent all along the way. Since Carolina is playing in the Hall of Fame game, their training camp was the first to get started in full, and these early reports have proven true. Brooks has no limitations in practice, and dynasty managers should finally get to see if the player they drafted in the first round two years ago can finally score fantasy points for their teams after sitting on the IR for two years. I’m cautiously optimistic that my three shares of Brooks will finally help my dynasty teams. Other managers are too, as I received several trade offers for Brooks. I’ve declined every trade and so must other managers, because I have not seen him traded in my leagues. Dynasty managers who have him are reluctant to trade him during this season of hype because they’re just too eager to see what they have on their roster after waiting so long. I understand why managers like me are reluctant to sell him right now, even as his unproven stock is on the rise.
Zay Flowers
- Ravens coach Jesse Minter said he looks forward to getting WR Zay Flowers the ball “in as many ways as possible.”
- I have to admit that I forgot how productive and amazing Flowers was last season. I did not have him on any roster until a few months ago, when I inherited an orphan team and had to determine how to evaluate him on my roster. I quickly put him on the trading block when I inherited the team that needs rebuilding, but after a longer look at him, I think he could be a great part of my rebuilding team. In this league’s settings, he finished as the 9th highest-scoring receiver last season, and he played much of the season without a healthy Lamar Jackson. All the news out of Baltimore is that the players are thrilled about the new offense and believe the offense will improve significantly with a new scheme in place and healthy Jackson back to lead the team. I’m buying the hype and now want to look to add Flowers to more of my teams.
David Montgomery
- NFL Network’s Jane Slater reports that Texans RB David Montgomery will “get a healthy amount” of touches, but “health, game flow and matchups” can dictate backfield workloads.
- The Texans coaches talked out of both sides of their mouths over the last few weeks, saying that Montgomery was their workhorse and that they planned to use a committee approach with Woody Marks. I lean more toward believing that Montgomery will get most of the workload and be very productive, even in his 29-year-old season. He will be an active part of a conservative offense that wants to run the ball and win with their top-tier defense. He’s a great pass catcher, too, and does not need to be spelled on passing downs. I have Montgomery in just one league where running backs are my weakness, but now I feel like I have found an every-week RB-2 for my team after he signed with Houston. I expect a season like Joe Mixon had in Houston, even if just for this one year.
Tre’ Harris
- ESPN’s Kris Rhim reports that the Chargers expect WR Tre’ Harris “to be a legitimate part of their passing offense” alongside WR Ladd McConkey and WR Quentin Johnston.
- The Chargers’ passing game will be one of the biggest mysteries of the season. It’s unclear to me who will be the biggest benefactor of the Mike McDaniels offense, McConkey or Johnston, or if Harris can be the wildcard. So far, I have placed my bets on Johnston, and I have traded for once this offseason already. I believe he’s the biggest and most athletic of the bunch and is unfairly judged in the eyes of dynasty managers because of his slow start in the NFL. I think McDaniel will release his talents this year and make him their highest-scoring and touchdown-producing receiver. McConkey is too injury-prone for me, and if he gets injured again this season, I would expect Harris to benefit the most, but I believe he needs an injury to do so.
